If I was to ask you why you wanted to lose weight, what would you say?
Most people I speak to want to lose weight and that’s it.You might pull out the old favorites - to be healthier or I want to look better.These are all goals without too much thought behind them.
We also tend to make these goals at opportune times, like New Years Eve or your Birthday, then we put them away for next special occasion on which we decide to make another huge change to our lifestyle which is destined for failure.
I’m going to borrow a bit of Stephen Covey’s ideas on goals.
Essentially when we make a commitment to ourselves and then don’t live up to it, we lose a little bit of credibility in ourselves, essentially we trust ourselves less.
The next time we have to make a commitment like this again, we are not so keen to, last time didn’t go so well.
I suppose we use the mechanism of New Years Eve resolutions to circumvent this process - Vague goals that are forgotten a week later.
All this is going to change.
The first thing i want you to do is really think about why you want to get into shape, there are a bunch of things that you could put down.
- You want to actually be able to go for a run down that golden beach just as the sun is setting,
- There is a particular kind of dress that you really want to wear to that once in a life time party,
- You want to actually be able to play with kids.
For most of us, being overweight and unfit means we get to spend life on the side lines watching it go by with other people having most of the fun.
So ask yourself, what is this fun to you? What would you do if you lost this weight?
Don’t just pick one thing, write a bunch of things that if you could do, would make you so excited that you couldn’t sleep tonight. Think about these and write them down.
Once you have done this i want you to write down what you need to do to get yourself closer to your goals. So are following the lose belly fat interval workout, this weeks actions will be as follows
- Do intervals three times
- Eat at around my Resting Metabolic rate
- Look over my goals daily
Then every night or every morning spend ten minutes looking over these goals and ask yourself, did i get it right today?
The look at your end goals and feel the excitement that you first felt, and think about what it would be like to achieve those goals. Each day you manage to achieve your mini goals will add a little courage, trust and conviction in yourself.
